Coho Surveys: That’s a Wrap!

LEKT Natural Resources Department have been conducting annual Redd surveys on rivers and streams within the Tribe’s Usual and Accustomed Fishing areas since the early 1990’s. These areas contain over 400 miles of potential salmon spawning and rearing habitat, but it is not possible to sample every reach. The survey effort that begins in November and continues through the beginning of January is focused on habitat and prioritizes reaches that can characterized by specific size, gradient and valley confinement conducive to spawning. Volunteer Planting at Ediz Hook

The Clallam Marine Resources Committee, Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, and Clallam Conservation District are teaming up again this year to improve the nearshore habitat on Ediz Hook. Volunteers are needed to help plant 2,500 bareroot plants. 2024 Elwha Bridge Run

The Elwha Bridge Run is this Saturday, February 3rd, 2024, and all LEKT employees/staff/families can register for 50% off entries to the Elwha Bridge Run. NOAA Fisheries Elwha Data Portal Now Live!

Elwha Dam Removal Monitoring Data Researchers from NOAA’s Northwest Fisheries Science Center have been working with LEKT Natural Resources staff and partners to examine how riverine, estuarine and nearshore habitats continue to change since dam removal. Holiday food boxes and tribal member and family checks will be available for pick up next week in the dining hall: Monday 12/18 – 12-4 Tuesday 12/19 – 10-4 LOCAL ELDERS 60+: The elders program will reach out to you to set up delivery of food and check. All Gov’t and Elwha Enterprise Inc. staff are invited to stop by and pick up food box for their family holiday meal (one box per residence).
