The Youth Wellness Scholarship Program is established by the Business Committee for the promotion of health, wellness, and supporting academic success and administered by the Tribe’s Executive Officers under the authority of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe General Welfare Code.
The Youth Wellness Scholarship Program provides nontaxable and non-resource assistance under General Welfare Code Section 01.100(2)(e)(v) to youth aged 5-17 Lower Elwha Klallam Tribal Members, and first generation descendants.
The goal of the Youth Wellness Scholarship program is to encourage LEKT youth to participate in activities by lessening the families’ financial burden and expanding youth opportunities to participate in extra-curricular activities.
Youth extra-curricular recreational activities are instrumental to wellbeing of youth. These activities promote physical activity, interpersonal communication, teach youth invaluable skills and life lessons, and often LEKT youth face financial burdens with participation in these activities.
Awards will not exceed a total of $500 (per youth participant) per calendar year (Jan. 1st to Dec. 31st).
Extra-curricular wellness scholarships can be used for: registration, fees, travel, and supplies/gear associated with activities through a school, club, or organization as well as approved structured and/or scheduled activities that are outside of the school day. Extra-curricular activities must promote positive choices and enhance life, as well as academic success.
Payments will be made by check to the custodial parent. Checks will be processed once weekly.
If you have more than one child participating in wellness activities, please complete separate application for each child.
Paper applications are available at the front desk of the Tribal Center. Please return them to Keri Ellis or Tia Skerbeck.
